Children's Book Week Celebrations

Next week is Children's Book Week and there are events going on all throughout the United States!

In Utah there will be events at Provo Library, The King's English Bookshop, and the Ft. Union Deseret Book.

Here are the details from the Book Week Online Events Webpage:

Provo Library

May 17, 7pm: Keynote Address by Gail Carson Levine
Gail Carson Levine, award-winning author of Ella Enchanted, will be speak in the ballroom. After speaking, she will sign copies of her books. Books will be available to purchase at the library, thanks to The King's English Bookshop. This event is free, tickets will not be necessary. Seating is limited so arrive early.



May 18, 10am: Author Brunch with Gail Carson Levine
Tickets $20. Each ticket includes brunch and a free copy of Ella Enchanted. These tickets are extremely limited and began selling Saturday, May 4th at 9:00 am via the Provo library circulation desk.

May 18, 11am-2pm: Children's Book Festival
Come enjoy face painting, crafts, a fortune teller, life-sized book characters, treats, games, puppet shows, book displays, a maypole, and live owls.

Free; no tickets required. The first 500 children will receive a free book. Gail Carson Levine will sign copies of her books on Friday evening and on Saturday from 12pm-2pm.

The King's English Bookshop

May 14, 7pm: Lisa Trimble Actor (Rebel Raiders)Local author, Lisa Trimble Actor will read from and sign her new book for middle readers, Rebel Raiders.

May 14, 7pm: Margaret Stohl (Icons) Young adult author, Margaret Stohl will present her new book Icons. Stohl will be joined by local authors, Stephanie Perkins (Lola and the Boy Next Door), Ally Condie (Crossed) and Shannon Hale (Princess Academy: Palace of stone).

May 16, 7pm: Josh Farrar (A Song for Bijou) Author Josh Farrar will present his middle-grade novel, A Song for Bijou. The story about a Haitian girl who moves to Brooklyn after the big earthquake. This event features Haitian drumming and dancing.

May 18, 11am: Mark Pett shares his new book, The Boy and the Airplane.

Deseret Book

Between 5pm-7pm each day during Children’s Book Week there will be a game to play and prizes to win! With every children’s book you purchase, you receive a free e-book from the daily featured selections (limit one per transaction.)

Every day there will be a display featuring a Shadow Mountain author such as Brandon Mull, Tyler Whitesides, Chad Morris, J. Scott Savage, and Obert Skye!

May 17, 6pm-8pm: Reading and book signing with A. E. Cannon (Sophie’s Fish and The Chihuahua Chase).

May 18, 1pm: Writing workshop with J. Scott Savage (Farworld and Case File 13)- This workshop will provide children with the necessary tools to develop a story. Savage will teach children how to create a story idea using a hero, a goal, obstacles, and consequences of success and failure.
